Buying vinyl on Bandcamp: check the edition, then the postage
An album catches your ear, and its vinyl edition is there below the player. Bandcamp brings the music, release notes and seller together, so you can listen before buying from the artist or label offering the record. It also gives you somewhere to go next: the rest of a small label's catalogue, beyond the album that brought you there.
Before ordering, read the physical listing carefully. A digital album and a vinyl edition are separate purchase options. A coloured pressing needs its own description. The seller handles the physical order, so postage and dispatch depend on who is sending it. Start with the music, then read the listing as carefully as you would a sleeve sticker.
Find the music, then choose the physical edition
Bandcamp's Discover page lets you browse music and merchandise by genre, format and artist location. The vinyl filter helps narrow your browsing to physical editions, saving you from checking each album separately for a record you can buy. Bandcamp describes the filters in its Discover introduction.
Once an album catches your ear, open its page and look through the purchase options. Read the vinyl listing itself. Confirm the format, number of discs, colour, packaging and any stated edition size. A picture of a blue record is less useful than an order option that actually says blue vinyl.
If several variants are offered, check which one you have selected before paying. A limited edition describes availability; it doesn't answer questions about mastering or pressing quality. Choose the colour you like, and look for separate evidence if the seller makes a claim about the sound.

Buying on the web, iPhone and Android
Bandcamp works on the web and has fan apps for iOS and Android. The current iPhone listing explicitly describes buying merchandise and wishlisting albums and tracks for later purchase. The Android listing describes buying music and merchandise. Both offer listening to purchased music online and offline.
For a vinyl order, the distinction to watch is physical merchandise versus a digital-only album. Don't mistake an album wishlist action for a vinyl order, or assume that buying the download reserves a record. Open the release in your browser if you need to examine all its purchase information together. The physical item, selected variant, delivery address and final total should all be clear before checkout.
An album being available to stream on Bandcamp also doesn't guarantee that the artist sells vinyl there. Artists and labels control their own physical listings and stock, as Bandcamp's physical-availability help page explains.
The seller sends the record
Bandcamp provides the storefront and payment system. Artists and labels list, manage and ship the merchandise, sometimes through a fulfilment partner. This gives you a specific seller to contact, but it also means there is no single dispatch standard across the catalogue.
Read the shipping origin and dispatch estimate. Then enter your destination and inspect the total. An attractive record price can become a much less attractive order once it travels across an ocean. Compare complete totals when the artist or label offers more than one regional source.
Adding another record doesn't automatically mean free postage. Bandcamp calculates combined shipping using a base charge and additional-item charges for items available from the same shipping origin. For an international order, check what the checkout total includes and whether import charges may remain payable on delivery. Keep the receipt. Bandcamp's tax guidance describes the taxes it collects and how customs paperwork can affect delivery charges. Work out the cost of getting this particular parcel to your door.
A pre-order has two clocks
The digital release date and the vinyl dispatch date can be different. Bandcamp allows a physical pre-order for an album that is already available digitally. It also allows a physical package to include a digital pre-order, with selected tracks available immediately and the full download sent when the seller releases it. These are separate settings in its pre-order documentation.
Read the physical item's expected dispatch date, even if the player already offers the whole album. A download arriving in your inbox says nothing about whether a parcel has left the warehouse. Save the stated shipping window with your order details so you know when an update is due.
Check whether a download is included
A digital copy can make a vinyl purchase particularly useful: the record at home, the album on your phone elsewhere. Check the package's inclusion text before counting on that combination.
Bandcamp can only supply audio files that the artist or label has uploaded. Its missing digital copy guidance explicitly covers physical purchases without downloadable audio. If the download matters to your decision, establish that it is included before you order.
Supporting the seller still involves fees
Buying from an artist's or label's page directs a sale to that seller. Bandcamp takes a share: its current fee schedule lists 10% for physical goods, excluding shipping and tax from that calculation, with payment-processing fees charged separately.
That makes a purchase a concrete way to support the people releasing music. It doesn't mean the full checkout amount becomes an artist's income. The seller still has the costs of making and supplying the record, and a label's artist arrangements are its own.
If an order is late or incomplete, start with the seller's Contact link on the page or receipt. Check the stated dispatch window first, allowing for transit after dispatch. If the seller doesn't respond, Bandcamp directs buyers to its support team. Keep the receipt, edition details and correspondence together. That gives the seller the details they need to resolve the order.
